We had a wonderful time hosting the Soles4Souls team last night in our home. They are working in the outlying parts of Trujillo today and tomorrow, distributing over 1,000 pairs of shoes to those in need. It is tremendously powerful to see a group of people come to another country to literally get on their knees and wash the feet of others. What a perfect example of what Christ does for us, and what He has called us to do for others. If you haven’t checked out their website, here it is: http://www.soles4souls.org/
Yesterday afternoon, we hosted our first big hospitality event since coming to Peru. A Christmas party for our neighbors and friends living nearby! We have wanted to get to know our neighbors better in this area, so the other week we set out to invite them to this event. Off we went down the row of houses with Jane in the stroller (a great incentive for them to talk to us…they love her!) and bags of homemade cookies as gifts. We had about 10 neighbors come, a handful of hermanos from our church, Cristo Rey, and a group of friends from Parish Woodshop, which is located very close down the road from us!
Caleb started off the party by reading part of the Christmas story from Luke and praying. After that, we turned the music up and served the food! The music played in the background, cookies were eaten and enjoyed, there was great conversations going around each group of people, jokes were made, and a general merriment was all around.
We were so glad to have this opportunity to get to know our friends better, and feel that the Lord truly blessed the whole event. Hopefully, that will have been the start of many more fun times ahead with everyone!
