The Long Winter

When I get the chance (which doesn’t seem to be very often these days) to take  a moment to reflect on recent days, I am always amazed and comforted to see how God has rained His grace upon us. This past week was a whirlwind, and, in some ways, it’s still a whirlin’! Today, Cassie’s mother and sisters are arriving from Carbondale to spend the weekend with us. We are so blessed to have them and are looking forward to a weekend of fun times. This past weekend we enjoyed a blast of warm air (an oasis in the middle of a bizarrely cold winter here in Tallahassee) and are now experiencing yet another cold front. Apparently, all 50 states (including Hawaii) have received snow this year. Our Lord is truly Lord of all, and His majesty continues to awe us as He perfectly manages this marvelous world in which we live. Cassie and I have recently been watching the Planet Earth series and are constantly astounded by the wonders of God’s creation shown in these beautiful films. The producers do not give honor to Whom it is due, but, in spite of that, God’s glory shines through as each of His creatures are shown in their total complexity and beauty. If you haven’t seen the films (apparently we’re a bit behind the trend here) be sure to check them out!

In a little over a week we will be making our way north to even colder climes (Pennsylvania), this time to visit with Cassie’s extended family (we can’t wait to see all of you!). This trip will coincide with a much needed (for me and my students) spring break. After that, the home stretch!

In fund-raising news, we received a beautiful set of cards from Peru Paper to send to our supporters. These cards truly are lovely, each one made with delicate care and imaginative artistry. We are praying for the many women who put so much of themselves into each of these cards in order to help provide for their families. Thank you, ladies! Also, we printed out our first batch of support letters and will be sending these out as soon as our prayer cards arrive. Please let us know if you would like to receive a letter/support card. We would, of course, be delighted to add you to our mailing list.

Ready, set, go!

After a lengthy absence, Cassie and I return to the blogosphere to share some very exciting and special news: We’re going to Peru!

God has opened the door for us to join our dear brothers and sisters on the field in Trujillo, Peru, where I will be working with Peru Mission as Director of Communications. My work will involve, among other tasks, writing, editing, translating and publishing materials for use both within Peru and the U.S.

Our plan is to be on our way to Peru in summer of 2011. This gives us a little over a year to prepare and to raise support. We will be sending out support letters soon. If you would like to receive one, be sure to send us an address to caleb.cassandra@gmail.com. We look forward to hearing from you!

In the meantime, we ask for your prayers as we start the long journey of raising support. Please pray that God would make our path smooth before us and that He would give us wisdom as we make many significant decisions related to our family life and future ministry. Pray that God would protect us from the evil one who seeks to tempt, accuse and discourage us. Pray that He would continue to provide for all our needs as He has always done. Pray that we would rest in the Lord and in His perfect provision and governance over us.
